A Day in the Life of an Elon Musk Bodyguard

Inside the life of Elon Musk Bodyguards. An intimate look into the life of Elon Musk’s bodyguards, who protect one of the most important people in our world today.

As one of the wealthiest men in the world, Mr Musk has been on multiple occasions been harassed by stalkers and paparazzi, to an extent where he has had to hire private security personnel in order to ensure his safety from potential threats.

How did you get into your profession?

Getting into Elon Musk’s house is relatively easy. Simply walk up to his front door, ring his doorbell and tell a little white lie. That might seem like an odd start to a story about being one of Elon Musk’s bodyguards, but it’s true—and it happens often enough that guards have learned how to deal with it. In fact, when you work for someone as wealthy and famous as Elon Musk, people will try just about anything to get into your clients’ houses. They might pretend they know your client or lie about having left something behind at their house or even flash expensive jewellery and claim that it belongs to them and they need help returning it—anything you can think of really.

If you’re unfamiliar with Elon Musk, he’s a well-known entrepreneur and investor. You may have heard of his electric car company, Tesla Motors; his private space travel company, SpaceX; or even his attempt to build a massive underground tunnel system known as The Boring Company. In each case, he serves as both CEO and CTO (Chief Technology Officer), meaning he has access to tons of valuable information about his company’s plans and operations—information that could be very useful to competitors or scammers looking for a quick score. That’s why anyone employed by Elon Musk needs top-level security clearance from one or more government organizations before they can work for him, regardless of whether they carry a gun or not.

Working for Elon Musk is no easy task, and anyone who gets a job with him has to be ready for anything. In other words, they need to be ready to learn quickly and adapt when plans change at a moment’s notice. That’s how all his companies work, so it shouldn’t come as any surprise that he expects his security staff to operate in much the same way. For example, if you see someone walk into one of his offices without being on your approved list—which may include hundreds or even thousands of people—you have to decide instantly whether that person can stay or should be turned away.

What is your daily routine?

What do you have to watch out for?

At first, it’s difficult to imagine what a bodyguard would have to watch out for when protecting one person, but it can get very tricky depending on who is after you. If you’re going up against drug lords or gang members with long-standing grudges, your job may entail fighting off numerous assailants and watching over someone who also knows how to fight back. It takes a tough individual with above-average agility and combat skills to do that job well; hiring someone who doesn’t meet those standards is not only wasting money but also endangering lives.

Additionally, bodyguards may have to stick to a protection plan that has been carefully arranged beforehand. If an issue arises on-site, they may have to make split-second decisions about what steps need to be taken and who needs protecting first. For example, if you are riding along with your client when someone opens fire on them, you may need to guide them out of harm’s way while shielding them from incoming bullets at the same time. Also, remember that it’s not just your physical safety that’s in danger; if a client were to die under your watch, you could easily be targeted for murder by their enemies or family members as retribution.

Those are just some of a bodyguard’s daily duties. Some other responsibilities may include watching out for threats that aren’t always physical, such as kidnapping plots or blackmail. If you work for a politician or CEO, your job could entail making sure they behave appropriately at all times so they don’t lose their public image. And let’s not forget how important confidentiality is; if someone tells you something in confidence while in your care, they expect you to keep it secret no matter what happens after that point. That can range from sensitive information about private business practices to personal details about family problems—in either case, if it becomes public knowledge through any means and is traced back to you, there will be severe consequences for both parties involved.

What kind of people do you get to meet?

When you’re escorting a billionaire and his family, or simply standing guard outside of their expansive house, it’s likely that you get to meet people from all walks of life. You’ll probably find yourself talking with people who have worked hard their entire lives, while others might try to introduce themselves as old friends or colleagues. Either way, some might try to get inside info on Mr Musk and how he can be reached when he isn’t at home. Your job is to just be yourself and remember that if something feels fishy about someone’s intentions or story, then you should always check with your supervisor before sharing any information about Mr Musk or anyone else who lives in his home.

Your job isn’t just to keep Mr Musk and his family safe, though. If you’re responsible for protecting someone who is a celebrity or public figure, your job is also to make sure that they feel comfortable and at ease at all times. So, when Mr Musk goes out to dinner with friends or family, it’s likely that you’ll be joining him as part of a small team—including other bodyguards and drivers—to ensure his safety as he interacts with others. For example, if one of Mr Musk’s friends wants to take a photo with him, then you should probably stand nearby so that you can step in if anyone gets too close or makes Mr Musk uncomfortable. When it comes down to it, your goal is always going to be to make sure that everyone feels protected while still allowing them some privacy.

You might even find yourself travelling around town with Mr Musk and his family during their downtime! Although most people don’t know about these trips because they often happen on short notice, there are plenty of opportunities for travel throughout any given year—which means more time spent outside of the home!

How much freedom do you have in your job?

As a bodyguard, you won’t have much freedom. Your job is to make sure nothing happens to your client—which includes preventing them from doing anything stupid. While you can’t stop people from getting drunk or high, you can at least keep your eyes open for signs that they’re about to do something stupid or dangerous. You are there to guide and protect your client with whatever means necessary.

As a bodyguard, you will be dealing with some tense situations. You may have to calm people down and mediate arguments and fights. Your client could also get drunk or high at some point, and you’ll need to make sure that doesn’t end in a disaster. Although you can’t stop your client from doing anything, there are things you can do to keep them safe and out of trouble—and getting fired is not one of them. If they drink too much or do something illegal while under your protection, their friends or family might blame you even if it wasn’t your fault.

As a bodyguard, you will have to deal with a lot of stress. No matter how well you know your client, there’s always a chance that something could go wrong. Your client might be attacked or kidnapped—or they might go crazy and try to hurt themselves or others. If you let anything bad happen to them, it’s on your head—and so is any harm they inflict on themselves while under your protection. You need to do everything in your power to keep your client safe and happy while under your watch. Even if that means kicking them out of their own house if they want to smoke weed or drink underage.

Where are some hot spots where you had to be especially careful?

I don’t know if it helped protect my family, but maybe my kids will like being bodyguards when they grow up. That could be a cool job to have. Maybe that’s why they say you shouldn’t meet your heroes because they will just disappoint you. I never expected to be spending so much time with Elon and his family, but it’s been fun! One thing is for sure, guarding him has made me more interested in space exploration and all things science. Now I know what kind of tools he uses every day and how dedicated he is to his work. He really knows what he’s doing even though people still think he is joking around or only trying to get attention from the media.

I was on a mission and I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going. That is when my foot got caught on something and I fell down. There were security cameras all over so it didn’t take long for somebody to come running to see what happened. When they did, they called for help from a paramedic crew. The injury didn’t hurt too much at first, but it started getting worse as more time passed by. After about 30 minutes, paramedics showed up with some of my fellow bodyguards and we all took an ambulance back to our hotel room so that one of us could escort Elon back home while everybody else went to hospital checkups.

The injury was really serious and I had to go to the hospital. Fortunately, it didn’t require much surgery. It only took about a month for me to heal, but that meant my vacation was cut short by about two weeks. Thankfully, I got plenty of money from my company for all that time off because getting injured on duty wasn’t my fault! All I did was make a stupid mistake while walking around town and got punished for it. Now they will probably be even more careful with me since I can get hurt so easily! Maybe they’ll change our security strategy or something so we are less likely to get attacked again. At least I hope they do because there’s no way I would have made such a mistake if somebody didn’t see me coming!

Do you think guarding such a high profile person has helped protect your family too?

Sure, it’s made life more complicated. We’ve had to move four times already, but at least we don’t have to worry about college for our kids—Elon took care of that. He’s a really nice guy, though he does work crazy hours, so you don’t really get to see him much. But when I do get time with him, we always talk about whatever school he’s donating money for next. My wife and I teach there sometimes.

Then we go on vacation with him and his family afterwards! It’s great! One time he even paid for my kids’ braces…it was awesome! [Laughs] Once my son asked what it was like being Mr Musk’s bodyguard, and I told him It’s like being Batman. So now he wants to be Batman when he grows up. I’m not sure if that means he wants to become a billionaire or fight crime…I’m hoping for both. Either way, good luck kid! You’re going to need it!
