The case against Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has been tumultuous from the start, with both sides lobbing accusations at each other. Now, reports indicate that Elon Musk may be called as a witness in the trial, which could indicate how the case may end up playing out in the coming weeks or months.
Elon Musk Is Ordered to Testify
To say it’s been a rough week for Elon Musk would be an understatement. On Tuesday, Tesla stock slid 12 per cent after disclosing that it delivered fewer-than-expected vehicles in Q3 and reported only $2 billion in cash on hand instead of $3 billion—an ominous sign for a money-losing company. Now, it appears that court documents have revealed that Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Teresa Beaudet will ask Tesla CEO Elon Musk to testify as part of her ongoing hearing with Johnny Depp’s lawyers about whether he can keep his dogs from being taken away from him. As Bloomberg notes, if she decides to officially call on Mr Musk
It could mean bad news for both sides: If Mr. Musk is called to testify and refuses, he could face contempt charges; if he testifies but says something damaging about Mr. Depp or Ms. Heard, either side could use those comments against them later on (or at least leak them). The judge is expected to make a decision by Friday morning.
Willingness To Testify
A source close to Musk told PEOPLE that he is open to testifying on Heard’s behalf. If Amber needs him to help her with something, of course he would do so, says the source. While it may be a business decision, at least one person close to Musk isn’t buying it. It’s Elon playing superhero and helping out a damsel in distress again, even though she doesn’t need his help at all and has her own $100-million fortune, a source close to Heard tells PEOPLE exclusively.
This is another instance of Elon using his platform and power for something that doesn’t matter instead of focusing on his businesses. He should focus on Tesla and SpaceX—two companies that are under a lot of pressure right now—instead of worrying about some actress who does not need his help. He could save himself some money and trouble by keeping his mouth shut.
What He Can Possibly Say?
He helped broker a peace deal between Heard and Depp. He could discuss that. In September, court documents revealed that Musk, who dated Heard for about a year before she met Depp, flew from his home in Los Angeles to Australia so he could speak with Depp in an attempt to convince him to stop harassing her. He also said he would write a check for $1 million to a charity of Depp’s choice if he agreed to do so. As part of their 2016 divorce settlement, both celebrities agreed not to publicly disparage each other (or talk about each other at all).
So it might not be appropriate for Elon Musk to comment on what happened during his conversations with either party—even if they were consensual. However, since those chats were meant to de-escalate conflict between two exes who had already been feuding publicly, Musk may be able to testify about that. If he does take the stand, expect Depp’s lawyer to try and discredit him by saying Elon Musk is only involved because he was dating Heard at one point—and has no real connection with her or her dog. The judge will probably let Elon Musk answer anyway because why wouldn’t you? This whole situation is bizarre!
We Need To Talk About The Violence Against Women Act
Jodie Foster recently spoke out about gender violence. As she noted, one out of every five women will be sexually assaulted while they’re in college and one in six women has been raped during her lifetime. In fact, a man is beaten by his partner every nine seconds and each year there are nearly seven million victims of domestic violence. Foster’s remarks are particularly timely since Congress will be revisiting The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Let’s all hope that we can come together to make some much-needed changes that protect our nation’s men, women and children from violent crimes.
We must talk about these issues publicly—and do everything we can to end violence against women once and for all. It’s time to stop ignoring violence against women. It’s time to stop turning a blind eye. It’s time to change things for good. There’s no more room for excuses. There’s no more room for ignorance. There’s no more room for apathy. If you see something, say something! After all, it could save someone’s life…or it could save your own life one day too!
The outcome of the Case?
Not long after her divorce from Johnny Depp was finalized, Amber Heard went to court. Her motive? To establish that Johnny Depp physically abused her throughout their marriage. This included an alleged incident where he hit her with a cellphone, which resulted in a bruise on her face. She also claimed that he made physical threats and once threw a magnum-sized bottle of champagne at her during a fight on his private yacht. A judge ordered him to stay away from his ex-wife and step-daughter after hearing these claims and allowed authorities to monitor him via GPS tracking until his trial concludes (or until June 17th, whichever comes first).
With such damning evidence against him, it’s hard to believe that Johnny Depp will ever be able to return home again. But what about his money? He still has plenty of it, but if he is found guilty in court, all of his assets could be seized by Amber Heard. That includes properties like L.A.’s Chateau Marmont Hotel, which is worth $15 million alone! The only thing stopping her from doing so is Elon Musk’s involvement with amber heard-johnny-Depp. Even though Elon Musk wasn’t directly involved in any wrongdoing, he may still have to testify in court.
However, given how busy he is with SpaceX and Tesla Motors, Elon Musk probably won’t have time for anything else. Luckily for him, Amber Heard hasn’t officially called for his testimony yet. In fact, she hasn’t even asked for a deposition yet either. It seems like she’s waiting until after Elon Musk finishes building his Hyperloop test track before calling upon him as a witness. Still, there are many questions surrounding Elon Musk’s involvement with amber heard-johnny-Depp that need answers before then…
